"Dark Alley To Power" is a thrilling and thought-provoking addition to the Carolina Callings series. If you're a fan of political dramas, complex characters, and gripping storytelling, this book is an absolute must-read.

The story picks up right where the second book left off, and the character development in this installment is simply phenomenal. We witness the main protagonist's growth and transformation as they navigate the treacherous path from a dark, murky past to seizing power and influence in the world of intrigue and politics. The struggles, sacrifices, and moral dilemmas faced by the characters add depth to the narrative, making them feel incredibly real and relatable.

The pacing is impeccable, balancing moments of intense action with introspective character-driven scenes. I found myself staying up late into the night, unable to put the book down, as I was constantly eager to know what happens next. The plot twists and turns are masterfully executed, keeping me on the edge of my seat and constantly surprised.

While the book is part of a series, it can still be enjoyed as a standalone, thanks to the seamless recap of important events from the previous books. However, I would highly recommend reading the entire series to fully appreciate the rich tapestry of the narrative.

Dark Alley to Power is book 3 in the Carolina Callings series, however it can be read as a stand-alone, which is what I did. The main characters were likable , especially Yvette Tyson and Will Burnside. Yvette (Po Po) is a 43-year-old woman running for governor of South Carolina as an Independent (although she later runs as a Democrat). Yvette is a woman who I would vote for- she's competent, has common sense, morals, etc. Her boyfriend is Cory (Casper) Logan, a boxer who is supportive of her ambitions and excited at the possible sports facility that will be named after him if she becomes governor. Will Burnside is the son of the current Republican governor who Yvette is running against. Will and Yvette form an unlikely friendship and end up working together. The novel tells two stories- Yvette's run for governor and her ex-husband, Brother Isaiah Hightower's daily life in prison for killing his mistress. Isaiah is a complex character who is both good and evil. The novel has many twists and turns, is an easy, fun read that I finished in a day. Recommend!

Dark Alley to Power is the perfect "beach read" (author Travis Casey's self-proclaimed writing style). The plot is fun and intriguing, the pace is fast, and I frequently found myself thinking "okay, one more chapter". It's one of those books that's easy to pick up and quick to get into, but doesn't keep you anxious or stressed out.

Casey's writing is delightfully concise, with a light level of detail that hits the right emotions without dragging you through wordy descriptors. He completes the picture without overdoing it. The text is ungilded because it doesn't need embellishments.

The story moves quickly, which, combined with Casey's refined writing style, makes the book a quick read - perfect for a weekend vacation, or casual downtime when you just want to enjoy yourself.

The only thing keeping Dark Alley to Power from getting a five star review from me is the occasional clunkiness - a detail delivered poorly here, a minor plot point coming somewhat out of the blue there. But this clunkiness was always small enough and infrequent enough that I made a quick recovery and hastened on.

    4 stars.

"Dark Alley to Power" serves as the third chapter within the captivating Carolina Callings series, weaving a compelling narrative that expertly interweaves themes of power struggles, concealed mysteries, and unforeseen alliances. Author Travis Casey consistently demonstrates his skill in fashioning intricate characters, seamlessly balancing depth with clarity, and this book is no exception to his literary prowess.

While "Dark Alley to Power" can be enjoyed as a standalone work, those who have journeyed through the Carolina Callings series from its inception will undoubtedly derive greater satisfaction and a heightened understanding of the evolving character dynamics and storylines.

Personally, having not delved into the preceding two books, I found immense pleasure in this installment, which has left me eager to explore the series' first two offerings. Even without the backdrop of the earlier works, I had no difficulty immersing myself in the narrative, thanks to the well-drawn, affable characters. The story, centered on the dynamics of a political campaign, proved both absorbing and realistic.

If you're seeking an enthralling, easily digestible read that compels you to flip through the pages effortlessly and you appreciate political drama that maintains a balanced approach, I wholeheartedly endorse "Dark Alley to Power."

This is an easy book to read. Not too dark, not too twisty. Enough suspense to keep you wanting more, but not so much it keeps you up at night. I found it very interesting how the author used race as such an important part of the story, especially with how taboo the subject seems in our society here in America today. It seemed to me the author portrays the issue of race as one the both blacks and whites take advantage of, which is not how the mainstream media and politicians seem to want us to think. The main characters have an interesting past and the different characters of the book cross paths in very interesting ways. What are the chances that the black woman running for governor gets in a car crash with the wayward son of her white opponent and… well l, I won’t tell you more, you’ll have to read it and find out what happens.

Dark Alley To Power, the third installment in the Carolina Callings series, delivers an enthralling narrative that brings together power struggles, secrets, and unexpected alliances. Travis Casey is an author who writes complex characters without making the book complex, and Dark Alley to Power is no exception.

The story picks up where the previous book left off, immersing readers once again in the world of high-stakes politics, with Carolina Callings retaking her role as a tenacious investigative journalist determined to expose the truth.

While the writing style is fast-paced and kept my interest, for the most part (I was able to read it in just over a day and a half) at times, the plot became slightly convoluted, and I found myself having to pay closer attention to grasp the intricate political landscape fully, even re-reading parts a few times. This is the only reason I gave it 4 stars.

While Dark Alley To Power stands strong as a standalone novel, readers who have followed the Carolina Callings series from the beginning will find deeper enjoyment and appreciation for the character development and ongoing story arcs.
