4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 17,284 ratings

He’s a West End blueblood. She’s an East End cop. When they met, it was murder.

“I loved this book! Great characters, great story! I was charmed by the interesting mix of personalities, and then unexpectedly Tony, Kate, Paul, Lady Margaret and others became real people to me - people I cared about. I lost track of me and fell into the story. That is what a great book does to one. I am purchasing the entire series!” —from

“I absolutely love the Hetheridge series and have been waiting on pins and needles for another installment!” —From
Reader Review

Lord Anthony Hetheridge, Chief Superintendent for Scotland Yard, has made a name for himself catching killers—a name all his own, apart from his hereditary title. On the cusp of his sixtieth birthday, the wealthy lifelong bachelor has it all—until DS Kate Wakefield upends his elegantly ordered world. The divide should be insurmountable—age gap, wealth gap, and a class gap wider than the Thames. But as Hetheridge, Kate, and his protege, DS Deepal “Paul” Bhar, investigate the brutal murder of a financier, he finds himself falling in love with Kate—even as the clues lead to a secret from his own past.

“This novel has everything I hope for in a good mystery: a strong plot with some good twists, enjoyable characters who have problems but behave with intelligence and humanity, villains who are well-rounded, and a good solid basis for an ongoing series.” –from
Reader Review

The
Lord & Lady Hetheridge Mystery Series follows Lord Anthony Hetheridge, DS Kate Wakefield, and DS Paul Bhar as they tackle the trickiest murders of all: those involving London’s rich, aristocratic, famous, and infamous.
Book 1,
Ice Blue, is a witty, romantic mystery that pits Hetheridge, Kate, and Paul against a brutal murderer in the heart of Mayfair. Book 2, Blue Murder, pits the team against a killer who just might be Paul’s old nemesis, the baronet-psychopath Sir Duncan Godington. Book 3, Something Blue, finds Hetheridge and Kate getting married and murder crashing the party. Black & Blue, book 4, pits newlyweds Hetheridge and Kate against a twisty case, and book 5, Blue Blooded, forces Hetheridge, Kate, and Paul into a pulse-pounding confrontation far above Westminster. Book 6, Blue Christmas, brings changes, blessings, and, of course, murder, while in Book 7, Untrue Blue, Hetheridge faces down corruption among fellow officers he once trusted with his life.

Review

"What made this ebook such pleasurable reading was not the murder or even the Police procedure, but the rather wonderful cast of characters that the author, Emma Jameson, has created to populate her world. In the space of about 184 pages, Emma has managed to give us a whole collection of individuals, each very nicely rounded out and real. Even very minor players - such as the tall PC who finds the pistol seems to be alive and obviously has a life outside the book." -- Tony Cole, eBookanoid.com

From the Author

The Lord & Lady Hetheridge cozy mystery series:

Book #1, ICE BLUE
Book #2, BLUE MURDER
Book #3, SOMETHING BLUE
Book #4, BLACK & BLUE
Book #5, BLUE BLOODED
Book #6, BLUE CHRISTMAS
Book #7, UNTRUE BLUE

First, I'd like to thank all my readers for their kind words, loyalty, and patience. Especially their patience!

New readers always ask, "Will there be more Hetheridge—'Blue'—books?" and "What else have you written?"

Will there be more
Lord & Lady Hetheridge books? The answer is a resounding yes. I have no plans to end the series. As long as I can write, I'll be writing about Tony and Kate and their friends. It's just that simple. At the moment, I'm writing book #8, which will be called LONDON BLUE.

Regarding question two, I'm thrilled to tell you that I have two other series. The first is the
Dr. Benjamin Bones Mysteries. Set during the Second World in my imaginary Cornish village, Birdswing, it's a fun, nostalgic, romantic cozy mystery series. When Dr. Bones is selected to serve his country at home during the war, he becomes adopted by a rural community very different from London. Packed with great characters, entertaining storylines, and complex mysteries, it's a perfect choice for anyone who is waiting (patiently, or impatiently) for another Hetheridge book.

I also write the
Jem Jago Mysteries, published by Bookouture. Set in the Isles of Scilly, an English archipelago off the coast of Cornwall, it concerns Jemima Jago—librarian, thirty-something singleton, and intrepid amateur sleuth. There are five books in all, and contain some of my funniest scenes.

So, there I was early Monday morning, 4:20 AM, finishing up "Ice Blue" by Emma Jameson... I who was going to be woken-up by an eager four-year-old in about three hours with choruses of "Breakfast! Breakfast!". The last time I completed an entire book was this past spring, and it took me weeks to get through it. Not so "Ice Blue"! A fast-paced read, the lead characters held my attention and interest right from the start, and the crime itself was quite a shocker, to be sure.
Back to the characters... I found them all extremely interesting, well-developed, and very realistic in their behaviors and dialogue. The interactions between Tony (Lord Hetheridge) and Kate (the future Lady Hetheridge) are the awkward dance of attraction right from the start, and listening to these two as they try to figure each other out, and figure out their feelings for each other, was an engaging trip. DS "Paul" Bhar was a trip as well, a funny and endearing partner-in-investigation for Kate... Some of the things he says... honestly!
So, plot... Had some great twisty elements, but not overly complex. This is by no means a negative. You realize right from the get-go that the cases are not the most important part of these books; the relationships are, especially the title characters These books are about Lord and Lady Hetheridge, and I truly look forward to following them through on their way to marriage and beyond.
Overall, I'm giving this a high rating because it was a great time! I spend most of my time writing (articles, screenplays, books) and, with a child around the house as well, rarely have time to read. I like a book that can pull me in, keep me hooked, and pays off in the end, and "Ice Blue" did just that.

I started reading this at bedtime - and I agree with other reviewers who say that is a huge mistake! I was unable to go to sleep until I finished it. The concept grabbed me, and I liked that two such different characters were connecting so well. I also liked that the romance OVERALL was not rushed; their mutual attraction hasn't just jumped to the bedroom.

There was a scene partway which DID feel a little rushed. ***SPOILERS*** When he decides that he's in love with her, there's no apparent lead-up to it other than a few sparks of attraction. I think that's a bit rushed, but overall it wasn't too much of a distraction. What kept that from being a real issue is the Hetheridge didn't act out of character - he may have felt that way but he didn't just throw himself at her feet. ***END SPOILERS***

I do hope the author hurries up with the next one; I immediately jumped on the Kindle store after finishing it to see if the next one was out yet. I loved this book and I think even with its flaws, it's a delightful start to the series. Her writing is crisp and.. well, alive - even the procedural elements are crackling rather than dry. The unexpected twists also give this more of a punch that I'd hoped.

One MAJOR positive for me; unlike a lot of Kindle books, this one had only one or two minor errors (a couple of ellipses when the author apparently intended to end a sentence and I believe one other minor typographical error). It was VERY well edited and there was nothing to distract from the story.

The four star rating is because, frankly, there just wasn't enough - I wanted MORE. But I really can't recommend this highly enough.

I very much enjoyed the tangled plot, and the deeply written characters. The unfolding of clues, general information, and relationships was well-timed. I'm looking forward to seeing how the main couple get on in future, and how that changes things at work and in their social circles.
  • Reviewed in the United States on May 24, 2017
I was excited to have a recommendation for a nice British cozy with just a touch of romance. I was wary about the nearly thirty-year age difference between the main characters and my wariness was proved correct. Instead of a mystery to sink into, Ice Blue reads like a typical romance novel with the much older, wealth aristocrat male and the younger, commoner female. This plotline is similar to historical wherein the wealthy older Duke breaks all social rank to marry his governess.

However, I did like Anthony Hetheridge refined, intelligent character. His character, likely due to his age and experience, was very well developed. Which is why I could hardly suspend my belief that he would be interested Kate whose messy family life includes having the responsibility of an adult, mentally challenged brother and nephew abandoned by her drug-addicted sister and on top of all that drama, Kate is pregnant by her loser ex-boyfriend. If I had to read one more scene where Kate is checking her cotton thongs for menstrual blood I thought I’d gag. This plotline was similar to typical historical romance plotlines wherein the noble aristocrat Lord Hetheridge offers marriage to the over-wrought Kate after she blurts out her secret following tragic news. Unplanned pregnancies in modern times with birth control is such a clichéd plot device for manufacturing conflict.

I don’t mind the series being a light-weight mystery, I wasn’t looking for brevity when I bought this book. However, I was disappointed that so much of the story focuses on the personal lives of the characters. Also the secondary characters, especially Beepal, are rather bland, and stereotypical. I want to give the series a fair chance and since this first book was free on Kindle, I will read one more book in the series before deciding whether to continue with the series or letting it go.

You don’t expect the ‘cozy mystery’ label placed on a book set in a big city—in this case, London. And yet, here it is. As in another Emma Jameson series (Dr. Bones), the characters are personable and engaging, details of the ‘sets’ are well painted (without over-descriptions), dialogues are swift and witty. Also, we have a unique ‘strong female’ character, although the ‘noble-person’ in this story is a man. Another addictive read, and wholly enjoyable!

Well written, interesting and developped characters, a tight plot...and a good conclustion.
There is good interplay and interesting relationships between the characters.
