- Reviewed in the United States on October 23, 2024I read an early ARC of this book. I’ve read several books by Nick Iuppa, and I’m always intrigued by his unique premises. Evolution’s Angels is about children scattered around the world who are displaying unusual traits that Dr. Kelly believes may be the next step in human evolution. These children can control machines with their thoughts and communicate telepathically with each other and have a silvery glow to their eyes. As word gets out about the children, there’s a radio shock jock who promotes fear and violence against them and whips up quite a rabid following. Dr. Kelly would like to bring some of these children to Leland University where she can study, observe, and protect them. The tension escalates as people begin to hunt them and strive to eradicate them. There’s also some humor as Dr. Wentworth, Dr. Kelly’s boss, who is a best-selling romance novelist, works on his latest book. I liked how this tied into events that unfolded. There are some minor errors, and I think some scenes could’ve been more fleshed out. But I always enjoy Iuppa’s books and interesting storylines. This book has much food for thought.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 24, 2024This is Nick Iuppa at his best, and I highly recommend it. Nick had an outstanding over 40 year career in the fields of production, writing and interactive design, even doing story-based simulations for the U.S. Army, before he turned to writing speculative novels. His extensive and varied experience shows in his novels, which combine highly imaginative ideas with great insight into human character and behavior. This book is an intriguing exploration of what happens when children begin to evolve at an unprecedented rate and how society reacts to their new and sometimes frightening capabilities. The characters are well developed, so you really care what happens to them; and the plotting is as imaginative as the premise. This book is definitely a must-read for current Iuppa fans and for those who want to be.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 27, 2024Outstanding story about children around the world who are gifted with mental abilities none of us possess. With their minds they can communicate with one another without speaking, they can control machines and even drive vehicles without being in the driver's seat. They can also fly without wings or having to be attached to a flying machine of some sort. Of course all of these fascinating abilities frighten many people who, fearing for their lives, want to exterminate them from the planet. But until they're gone, if ever, they will definitely be the next variation of we Homo Sapiens as their numbers mount with them eventually taking over the world. A great read from beginning to end.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 30, 2024Taking place in several locations in the United States, Nick Iuppa quickly sets the stage for each and introduces several strong likable characters as he moves the story along. The implications of the plot can be frightening, but Nick never lets it get out of hand; the characters consider all the options and we come to care about them. The book entices us to get back to it. We come to wonder if having kids with superior mental powers and super strength will bode well for us mere mortals. That said, ironically, it’s a relaxing and enjoyable read…
- Reviewed in the United States on September 3, 2024Highly recommended reading. Very interesting subject matter, highly thought-provoking, and comes with a double surprise ending. Fast-paced read and difficult to put down once started. Layout and font makes for an easy read for folks with vision issues.
