Into a Wicked World: Clean & Wholesome Romantic Reimagining of The Wizard of Oz (A Wholesome Romance in Oz Book 1) Kindle Edition
When Dorothy Gale said she wanted to get as far away from her narcissistic mother as she possibly could, she didn’t mean an entirely new world altogether. Mystically transported to the Land of Oz, the Kansas college student must navigate the dangers of angry trees, poisonous poppies, and wicked witches, all on her quest to find the Wizard who might be able to get her home.
It doesn’t take Dorothy long to assemble a group of unlikely allies—including a talkative-yet-naïve scarecrow, a princely lionman, and a woodsman whose looks are as sharp as the magical axe on his hip. But when the seemingly cold-hearted woodsman escorting Dorothy through Oz begins to warm her heart, she starts wanting more than just a return trip to Kansas.
Enchanted by a curse that has earned him the nickname Tinman, Nick Chopper just wants to live his lonely life safe in the Blue Forest with the nonjudgmental Fighting Trees and the occasional trip into town for some Munchkin desserts. But his routine is about to be blown away when Glinda the Good orders him to escort a whirlwind of a woman, who has just flown in from a faraway land, to the bustling Emerald City.
Every moment with Dorothy makes his curse harder and harder to bear. But being around her starts to feel worth the pain, and Nick slowly begins to hope Dorothy can see that home is where the tin heart is…

About the author
Jordan Riley Swan is a wild word hunter living in the far and dangerous reaches of rural Ohio. He spends his nights tracking down big-game stories, capturing them in paper cages, and training them to be better tales.
The Heart’s Bidding was the first novel he’d dared to use the keys of his typewriter to release back into the wild.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 4, 2024A sweet and wholesome romantic retelling of the Wizard of Oz with a college aged Dorothy and a human Tinman under a very metallic curse.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 2, 2024A cute and adorable Wizard of Oz retelling that’s easy to read and leaves a smile on your face as well as wondering what comes next in book two.
A handsome tinman, the sweetest scarecrow you could ever imagine, and a polite prince lion aiding a Dorothy from our modern world as she treks through this magical and wondrous new world of Oz. This book touches on all of the original Oz with its own little bits that make it unique but still manage to retain the overall feel of the original story. Definitely a good read if you want something short and easy to break up all those heavy hitting fantasy books.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 12, 2024Love the book.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 18, 2024I found "Into a Wicked World (A Romance in Oz Book 1)" by Jordan Riley Swan to be an enjoyable read overall. The character development was particularly strong, and I appreciated how the story cleverly incorporated elements from various Oz books and movies. However, the chapters felt a bit lengthy, and the story lacked some depth. While it was entertaining, it didn't completely captivate me. Nonetheless, it's a fun retelling for fans of the Oz universe.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 7, 2024A wonderful way to retell The Wizard of Oz!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 18, 2024What a fun story! It kept the atmosphere of the original Oz, while bringing its own uniqueness. I personally do not feel that it was just a retelling of the first one. It has its own character background stories. And it's own set of events that happen. I honestly do know have any dislikes about this book. I plan to read more in this series. It was a good series starter.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 14, 2024When I was a little girl, and my sister first put in our copy of The Wizard of Oz into our Beta machine, it was a transformation for me. In fact, I think that movie might even have been one of our VEY FIRST VHS’s when they brought home that new fangled contraption that was more popular than our Beta or the laser disc my dad’s friend had.
Oz was this MAGICAL place filled with SUCH saturated colors! And Dorothy’s voice as she sang “Somewhere Over The Rainbow,” it transported me. Those shoes, WHY couldn’t I own a pair! Right then it was the ONE thing I wanted MOST in my secret heart. And knowing deep down that I NEVER could really go, I’ve sought out ANY glimpses into that world. I watched Return To Oz. A MUCH darker version. People talk of the darkness of Wicked. I read it, it’s more sexual! But dark? Nah! Return to Oz ALWAYS freaked me out WAY more! The room of heads? The electric shock therapy that was SO strong IT transported her back to Oz! And those weird guys on the wheels! I STILL hate them in my minds eye!
I have always sought out books too to take me back to Oz. Even reading to my kids the original book. So VERY different from the movie I had QUICKLY learned. And learned to love them both SEPARATELY as I’m sure I’ll try for with Wicked.
This book was a WHOLE other perspective for. In that in ALL my readings with Oz I’d NEVER thought of the Tin Man as, a man! I mean, even the song alludes towards that. And yet, he was just ALWAYS a Tin Man to me! And to just experience that transformation. I don’t know. I had to put the book down for a few days. It was just so jarring for me, personally. It was altering my world in a way it hadn’t been before. Plus the description of the homes, so candy-esque that is was hitting my sweet tooth.. But it was a beautiful story. And I always love Dorothy. I thought the name choice of Zolesha was interesting. So many authors will give new names to the witch. And yet, all the rest of the characters names always stays the same. Except that we DO learn the Tin Man’s name.
Would I recommend this book? Well, I am not typically a romance reader. But, as I said, I AM an Oz reader. So if you’re like me. It’s still a win in that category. IF you are romance reader, it’s good in the romance. And it is wholesome. Which I appreciated. I am not a fan of romances that burgeon on erotica or harlequin. It’s a light romance. All in all I did enjoy the read. And being taken back to Oz to see “Nick” in a whole different light. Plus, I’d always felt in the 1939 movie that those two had something special. So that gave me a glimpse into that sort of thinking.
