KILLSONG (THE NICHOLAS SHARP THRILLERS Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.2 4.2 out of 5 stars 360 ratings

First they betrayed his trust… then they betrayed his country.

Nicholas Sharp was the best of the elite. But after deliberately planted false intelligence caused him to shoot an innocent man, the US Marine sniper walked away.
Seeking refuge in the solace of his beloved piano, he's moved on.

Until…

Suddenly, Sharp’s new world is blasted apart.
While he’s preparing to back well-known singer Robbie West on a USO tour of Iraq, a close friend and her daughter disappear.
Simultaneously, faces from Sharp’s troubled past re-emerge… and it’s no coincidence.
Enter the last man on the planet Sharp wants to see, his former superior officer, ex-Major Giles Winter. Winter and his colleagues are convinced that the failed Saddam regime had strategically secreted biological and chemical weapons well away from prying eyes, and they want to get their hands on them.
Sharp is dumbfounded. Everyone knew there were no WMDs in Iraq. But what if everyone was wrong?
In Winter’s eyes, Sharp’s involvement in the USO tour provides access and opportunity, the kidnapped mother and child, his motivation. Sharp is ordered to retrieve Saddam’s cache so Winter can auction it to the highest bidder.
But Nicholas Sharp gave up following orders long ago.
Trapped in a deadly maze of colliding worlds and dark agendas, Sharp is compelled to act. He knows there’ll be blood on his hands. It’s just a question of whose.
As tensions mount, his ‘would be’ masters raise the stakes, so Sharp forces their hand, defiantly stepping on stage in front of 75,000 fans.
However, somewhere in the crowd, a deadly assassin awaits.
One wrong decision, one misstep… and the consequences could be disastrous.

Somewhere between Clancy’s Jack Ryan and Ludlum’s Jason Bourne, Nicholas Sharp may be a flawed and reluctant hero, but you sure as hell want him on your side.

Review

"I had to keep reading to the end, could not put it away until I had finished.
So much tension, with cruel villains, innocent hostages and two great heroes. There was an occasional smile with Nicholas Sharp's self-recriminations or confidence boosters...I will be reading more of this series."
Sylvia-Amazon Canada-5 Stars

M.J. Parker-Author-Goodreads-4 stars

About me & why I found this a surprisingly exceptional read. I am a 59-year-old woman who knows nothing about the military, I only know a few people who were in the military, but we never speak about it. My normal genre is mysteries and although I do have a good amount of knowledge of handguns, and some knowledge of rifles, this book was understandable, but not simple. On Amazon, I read that this was a thriller, the blurb sounded interesting & it was free, so I thought I'd give it a go. I found the characters very well defined & likable, the story was engrossing & fast-paced. The book was hard to put down, which is difficult when you only read for an hour or so before going to sleep, this one kept me (not unhappily) awake. I appreciated that the author made this book completely understandable to the layperson, yet told a great story with characters you'd want to know.

This book features an interesting prime character in Nicholas Sharp, ex marine now a musician. I thought it was a good read but it did get a bit bogged down in character development however I plan to read the series as it was a great story!

Not up to making Nick a bad ass which it seemed what the author was trying to do. Great effort but not quite there.

A fast-paced action story of a former marine who wants to forget that past life and live as the talented keyboardist he became. However, his past and present are ruthlessly exploited by a former officer with no moral compass who will stop at nothing to get what he wants. It's up to Nicholas to figure out how to prevent that terrible outcome.

Well I was always taught if you can’t say anything good, then say nothing,, that applies to this book ( KillSong). By MarMannock! I should leave it At that, but I have to say the hero’s in this story were in the clutches of the villains, at least 5 times probably 7 or more times, and yet they come up winners, this puts a bad name on villains! Very inept!

Sorry but this did not do it for me, nor did it compare with the Reachers of the literary world.

I chose this book on amazon based on reviews making comparisons with these characters but I was left disappointed.
